Day Four
Day Four. One step at a time. One thing I have been struggling with, unbelievably- keeping up on my steps! I used to joke about "getting my steps in". For years, thanks to my career choices and active lifestyle, it was never really a problem. When I was in shipping/receiving for example, I would hit 15,000 steps by lunch.
I got my first fitbit in 2013, and being the stats nerd that I am.. kind of became dependent on it. Not just for steps, but to make sure I *wasn't* moving too. I needed to know how much (or rather how little) I was sleeping, especially when I was doing shift work. I'll circle back to that in another post.
For now, back to the walking. I lost my fitbit sometime while I was working in the factory because we couldn't have anything on us while we were on the floor. I stopped wearing it altogether, and ended up misplacing it. I went from that job to the shop which ended up being even more sedentary, and then I got laid off. Never have I ever had an issue getting *at least* 10k steps in in a day- until now. I didn't realize it until I got another fitbit.
Knowing about the impending layoff (and how cold and crazy the winters here can be), I did myself a favour and ordered a walking mat. I'm finally starting to get into the rhythm of using it (without falling off of it) while I listen to my collection of audio books.
Slowly but surely, I'm getting there. I missed my 10k daily target on day 3 thanks to a really rough endo day, but I didn't beat myself up over it. I just got back to it today. When I do get enough movement in I definitely sleep better, and it helps my digestion too.
I know this- and funny enough, one of my 'Facebook memories' that came up today from 2013 was about just that. I started running the canal trail (back when I could run) which was a big part of my health journey the first time around.
I had to push myself at the end of the day to reach my goal today, but I'm glad I did. I feel like I might be able to sleep tonight. To be continued..
